Baby fruits, July 22 2019

Well my little Moonglow pear is loaded with baby pears this year, this is it's 3rd year of having pears but last few years only a few pears made it to maturity. This pear tree is right next to our front handicap ramp so I can just reach up and pick them when they are read (took this photo from standing on the ramp)

Here is a photo of a few of our baby plums on the plum tree that is right next to the front ramp as well,but this one I can stand right on the top by the top of the steps to pick these when they are ripe. This was also loaded but some pesky furry critters have been helping themselves to the unripe fruit.
When these are ripe they are pretty little red globes, they are lovely sweet and are freestone.

So looking forward to the fruits to ripen next month. Also have had cherries but they are done, have apples and hazelnuts ripening and am picking black and red raspberries right now too.

Trees down in storm..July 2019

This one is hung up above my head and large, this won't be getting cut up anytime soon, as I can't reach it. I'll work on it when I can get to it.

This tree is hung up on BOTH ends, fun. At least it isn't over any pathways to where it will hurt anyone when it falls down.

This one is thankfully down on the ground and smaller, so I'll be able to cut this one up completely yet this summer. It is across 3 of my paths, quite a tall tree.

There were a lot of smaller trees down but not where they presented any problem for me. Glad I have a good chainsaw that I can handle and a trailer for my riding lawnmower to haul with.

4th of July 2019

Well Joel bought the three of us a new to us used car. Had a few glitches, as we had to replace the brakes, they were a mess, wierd fluid in them. But it is up and runnng now and I'll drive it for the first time since it's working properly this weekend. Had a leak in the sunroof but was probably twigs caught in the seal and pouring rain, hopefully that was all.

My Roses have been blooming for a while but the clematis are just starting. The little blue bells are hard to see in the photo. Here are more clematis on the other side of the steps.

There are lots more roses and flowers blooming now and the fruit is forming on the fruit trees and berries. I've frozen lots of strawberries, the blueberries and raspberries aren't quite ripe yet. The grapes are really loaded with fruit buds, summer is on.

Brain Surgery

Well on May 23 2019 I had brain surgery to repair some cerebral spinal fluid leaks from my brain. I was in the hospital until June 1 and I've been recovering. I'm not supposed to be doing any lifting, pullling, pushing or digging.

This is putting quite a crimp in my gardening, with my shoulder surgery last year that set me back a year I'm being further set back this year with my restrictions.

This is a photograph of the raised beds taken after I got out of the hospital, not being allowed to pull weeds for a while they are really messy, but as of now we have begun to pick some strawberries, lettuce and other greens from the beds and the grapes and blueberries are flowering. Hope is eternal.

In the meantime my tried and true lilacs, smoke bush, honeysuckles and fruit trees have all bloomed and the siberian and bearded iris are in bloom now. Roses are coming on as are mock orange and other flowers, a great thing about having established perennials and fruit plants and trees, even when you can't do anything, they can.

There are lupines an poppies and spirea and hardy geraniums flowering all over, my property is taking care of me during my recovery.

So going into July I'm hopeful, the nut trees have baby hazelnuts, the berries are producing, the fruit trees have apples plums pears, etc. And even the replanted because of a late frost gardens are growing again, maybe we'll have some produce from them, but this little gal is trying to prevent that. In the first photo she is eating strawberry leaves and in the second one she was getting up on her hind legs and eating off the apple tree.

So I'll check in with you when things began to pop around here..later..

Memorial Weekend May 2019

Memorial Weekend 2019 .. things are leafing out and the plum, pear and cherry tree blossoms are opened up. In the photo above you can see one of our plum trees to the left of the front steps, there is a Moonglow pear tree to the right of the front steps, and the 5 on 1 pear tree is just to the right of that by the ramp. There are several other pear trees, a Bartlett to the right of that tree at the corner of the deck and an Ayres pear tree around the corner.

 The plum tree to the left of the front steps, has round red plums

 Moonglow pear tree to the right of the front steps, has a few sets of blossoms.

 5 on 1 pear tree right of the Moonglow pear by the handicap ramp, you can see a few blossoms o this one, this will be the first year that we get pears on it.

 This is the Bartlett pear tree at the corner of our house , the southeast side by the east deck.

 Here are some baby plants coming up between out two front paths, iris, hydrangea, hosta,s etc.

I have a lot of baby siberian iris coming up all over the property, blue, purple, white, yellow, etc.

 These are baby honeysuckles also, I have lots of these that will bloom in a week or so, pink, red and white.

The daffodills are just about finished.

ah, spring !

 My first hint of asparagus, more since and have eaten some.

 So far this year in the last 3 days, 19, here are a few..

 Here is one of our North Star Cherry trees, it is in a guild with rhubarb, comfrey, asparagus, bearded iris, and grapevines over arbor. There is another on the left, see photo below, guilded with asparagus, and gooseberries, chives, and a few other plants

 Plum tree guild in the front yard, is underplanted with perernnial and annual flower and has lilacs to draw in pollinators. There are climbing roses on the right. We also have several other plum trees in other areas of the property.

 Here is a pear tree guild, underplanted with perennials and roses and some other shrubs and plants, there are 2 dwarf pear trees here, one closer to the steps and one nearer to me taking photo.

There are several other pear trees also on the property, one behind me taking photo and two more by the east deck.

dog deterrant

Well some of our neighbors have dogs that have become a problem on the property. Used to have the entire yard fenced in but the posts rotted off and fence came down. We replaced a bunch of it and I also put up some wire fencing, but not enough to deter all the dogs. The neighbors this way have buried elec fencing with dog collars but the dogs ignore them, so as a deterrant I piled some brush along the property line where there is no fence. Wish I could afford and have time and energy to get fence all around the property again, as the dog the other direction actually killed 2 of our cats and our wild duck nest a couple years ago, but hopefully this will be a small deterrant this direction.
